Counter
The SiteSpider counter is an invisible counter and statistics system to keep track of the people looking at your website.
The counter uses a combination of JavaScript and environmental information to collect data on each visitor. Information such as the visitor's screen resolution, web browser, operating system and IP address is logged.
There are several peices of information collected by the system, these include:
- Bots - these are automated systems for collecting information from web pages. They are typically used by search engines such as Google or Yahoo! to index pages so that they can be searched.
- Pages - the counter will only collect detailed information on the main or home page of your website. It can be configured to collect access statistics for any number of other pages on your site.
- Referers - referer information shows you where the visitors to your website have come from.
- Countries - a regularly updated database of IP and their geographical locations is used to approximate the location each visitor to your website.
- Screen Resolutions and Depth - information on the graphical display settings of your visitors can be useful when designing your website.
- Browsers - information about the browsers used by your visitors can be useful when designed and developing your website.
- Operating Systems - the counter is capable of collecting information of the operating systems used by visitors to your website.
Hourly, daily, and monthly breakdowns of the information are available as well as overall statistics. At the end of each month users' can generate and download a monthly report in PDF format.
Our customer interface allows you to view all this information, as well as to reset your counter or to set an offset. The offset may be useful to maintain an overall count of visitors if, for example, you are moving from another counter service. Email notification of basic visitor statistics in daily, weekly, or monthly intervals can also be enabled from the customer interface.
